WORT 89.9 FM VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES - 7/2/08 RECEPTIONISTS Mondays, 8am-Noon (beginning in September) Thursday, Noon-4pm (beginning in August) Substitute receptionist to fill in as needed AUDIO ARCHIVE MAINTENANCE Volunteers with strong computer & data entry skills (experience with Windows XP required/Mac & Linux a plus) Familiarity with recording software preferred. Trim and edit digital recordings and transfer between different computers and media. Work with programmers to maintain updated program descriptions in archive database. Available 1-2 times per week. THIRD WORLD VIEW Critical, anti-imperialist coverage of world news and features; broadcast Sundays 5-6pm. Production takes place on the weekend. News writer/reader and feature producer tasks are rotated among collective members. An engineer and news writers/feature producers are needed. PERPETUAL NOTION MACHINE (Science show) 1st, 3rd & 5th Thursdays 7:30-8pm. Collective members needed for on-air hosting and to engineer, interview guests, compile science news and produce features. IN OUR BACKYARD Local/State News, Monday thru Thursday 6:30-7pm Production begins between 3-4pm. Breaking news, feature reporters and substitute engineers needed for all days. THE PROMOS: Tuesdays 7-10pm Get on-air and production experience with a multi-disciplinary team incorporating musical knowledge and skills in research, script writing, music selection, voice-over, engineering and audio editing with computer software. (The Promos are especially in need of women to record voice overs!) HER TURN News and features by and about women from a feminist perspective airing each Sunday from 11-11:30am. Application for new collective members are currently being accepted. A commitment of one year is required. QUEERY Queer/L/G/B/T show, Wednesday 7-7:30pm looking for collective members. LABOR RADIO Airs news by, for, and about working people each Friday, 5:30-6pm. Production meetings, Tuesday, 7am at Willaby's Cafe, 1351 Williamson St. Collective members are needed to do reporting, engineering, on-air hosting and producing. SOUND BOARD OPERATORS - Training provided) Weekday shift: 8-9am, Noon-2pm, 5-7pm, 7-8pm. Wednesday or alternating Thursdays, Noon-2pm available. INSURGENT RADIO KIOSK READERS ( A pre-recorded 5 minute segment airing weekdays 5am; 6:30am; 9am; 2pm) Readers (by appointment), 1-2 times/month, Sunday, 12-1pm EN NUESTRO PATIO Locally produced Spanish language news, Tuesday 7-8pm. Collective members, especially women are needed for news writing, reporting, producing, and engineering. HEALTH WRITERS (Health Care & Politics) Health Writers airs alternate 2nd & 4th Thursdays 7:30-8pm, with weekly meetings, Mondays at 7pm at the station. Health Writers needs collective members to produce features and host call-in shows. RADIO LITERATURE Airs Thursday, 7-7:30pm, featuring poetry, fiction, and non-fiction from Wisconsin and beyond. Radio Lit needs 1-2 new volunteers to produce and host one show every 4-6 weeks. All are welcome, but a Spanish-speaking host would be especially appreciated. NEWSLETTER LAYOUT FOR VOLUNTEER NEWSLETTER (Using Adobe Pagemaker, Indesign or Adobe Creative Suite) MUSIC DEPARTMENT ASSISTANTS Weekday, daytime tasks working with local music promoters & record labels MUSIC CALENDAR EDITORS Typing, using internet & Updating web calendar/page. 1-3 hours/week, may be done at the station, at home or elsewhere. RADIO HYGIENE COORDINATOR Label CDs for FCC violations & safe harbor content. 1-2 hours/week.
